- ➤ Today, Brood 14 cicadas emerge in West Virginia after a 17-year cycle, with some residents annoyed while others find meaning in their appearance. WVPB also launches the new radio and television series—Almost Heavens—where astrophysicist Shannon Silverman shows viewers how to spot the Orion Nebula with the naked eye. - ➤ On May 28, WVU Libraries honored staff at the Downtown Library in Morgantown by giving awards for exceptional service. Megan Heady received the Outstanding Librarian Award, while Beth Thobois, Autumn Summers, Braden Rupe, and a team for relabeling 7,000 Appalachian Collection volumes were also recognized — reflecting the institution’s commitment to strong leadership and teamwork. - ➤ Energy Express will induct 150 students and volunteers as AmeriCorps members during a ceremony at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at Evansdale Rec Fields as Jorge H. Atiles leads the pledge. The new members will work in 22 counties, complete at least 300 hours of service and receive a living allowance and education award — part of a six-week program aimed at improving reading and nutrition for low-income and rural children. - ➤ The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources announced that Saturday and Sunday will be free fishing days when adults may fish without a license in any public waters while all other rules still apply. The agency will also host free kids fishing events at Bowden Trout Hatchery and Little Beaver Lake State Park — a move to help families get started with the sport. MetroNews

- ➤ Senior Brodie Kresser, junior Logan Sauve, and senior Reese Bassinger of the West Virginia University baseball team were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday afternoon. They maintained GPAs above 3.50 with Kresser and Sauve earning repeat honors while Bassinger, an All-America finalist, will advance to the national ballot. West Virginia University
