BUSINESS NEWS

  • Owens & Minor opened its medical supply logistics center in Morgantown Industrial Park with a ribbon cutting held Monday— the 350,000 square foot facility on 30 acres has 53 loading docks and advanced robotics to support WVU Medicine's hospitals and will add over 100 jobs by year’s end.  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A West Virginia University microbiology student in Morgantown discovered a long-awaited mystery fungus once sought by LSD’s inventor—experts say it may lead to new pharmaceutical developments.  WV News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Morgantown Police Department is training its newest K-9, Edo, a Dutch shepherd, with handler Patrol Officer First Class Marlee France during week three of an eight-week program. They will be fully operational by mid-summer and will work in narcotics detection and patrol—support is provided by the West Virginia Law Enforcement Police K-9 Fund.  The Dominion Post
  • Monongalia County 45/29 on National Lane is closed from milepost 0.16 to 0.17 due to a slip in the road—officials say it will remain closed until further notice.  WV News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Monongalia County Health Department is facing budget uncertainty as it loses key federal funding sources and may see cuts in services like immunization and family planning. Leaders have proposed measures such as a 10% fee increase for the dental program and reducing family planning clinic days from five to one to manage costs.  The Dominion Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Virginia's baseball team defeated Kentucky 13-12 Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium to win the Clemson Regional Final and improve to 44-14 this season, with key players including Griffin Kirn and Armani Guzman (Regional MVP). They will advance to next week's Super Regionals and face either LSU or Little Rock (opponent to be confirmed).  West Virginia University
  • Graduate student Sarah Tait ran the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at Visit Jax Track in Jacksonville on Saturday and finished third with a time of 9:42.14 to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships—Tait and freshman Joy Naukot will compete at the championships from June 11-14 at Hayward Field in Eugene.  West Virginia University
