  • Sierra Club West Virginia is debuting its Quilting for Community project tonight at The Co-Op (131 Pleasant Street) in Morgantown from 6 to 8 p.m.; the quilt, crafted over five months by dozens of residents, may tour local venues across the state to spark conversation about coal's future.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting
  • Mountaineers Indivisible Citizen Action hosted the Good Neighbors Rally on Sunday from the Farmer's Market Pavilion to the Ruby Amphitheater at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park. Local leaders, music and food trucks added energy as speakers stressed the need to maintain church + state separation.  The Dominion Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • West Virginia State Parks announced guided hikes and trail cleanup events planned for Saturday, June 6. The events invite locals statewide to enjoy the trails and help keep them clean for future generations.  WDTV

  • The Public Service Commission began holding hearings on the MARL Transmission line this week to gather community input. Sessions are at local venues (details provided by officials) and aim to guide improvements to our energy infrastructure.  MetroNews

HEALTH NEWS

  • West Virginia has been selected for a federal Medicaid demonstration program that will expand mental health and substance use treatment statewide. The program will help boost behavioral health care for communities like Morgantown as plans move forward + officials expect improved access.  WV News
  • Governor Patrick Morrisey announced Monday that an extra $3 million from the Rural Health Transformation Program will fund community health initiatives to prevent chronic issues and help boost workforce participation & strengthen rural health systems.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

SPORTS NEWS

  • Morgantown High School senior pitcher Slade Barton was named the 2025-26 Gatorade West Virginia Baseball Player of the Year Monday. Standing 6-foot-3 (210 lb), he led his team to a 27-5 record with a 1.68 ERA in 33.1 innings as they head into the Class AAAA state tournament.  The Dominion Post
  • Mountaineer baseball hosted the fourth NCAA regional on campus Monday night when the team faced Kentucky for a chance to advance to the Super Regionals. Athletics director Wren Baker said the event gives the team a competitive edge and could boost local tourism.  MetroNews
  • University High offensive lineman Luke Braham verbally committed to Virginia Tech over the weekend after receiving offers from Rutgers, Northwestern, and others. Ranked as the state’s top recruit, he is set to help the Hawks build a strong lineup in the upcoming season.  The Dominion Post
  • University High, seeded 2, will face No. 7 Washington in Game 4 Tuesday evening, and the Mohigans will play No. 5 Hurricane Tuesday morning at Little Creek Park (South Charleston) today after winning their North Region contests.  The Dominion Post
