  • The Quota Club of Morgantown, serving the community since 1926, will celebrate its 100th year by donating its 43rd AED at the Mylan Park Ice Pavilion on Tuesday — club president Denise Palmer said the group supports hearing assistance, scholarships, and local events.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

CULTURE NEWS

  • West Virginia Humanities Council is offering mini-grants up to $2,000 for humanities projects such as lectures, museum exhibits, and educational events. Nonprofits can submit applications by Aug. 1+ the Council’s only grant offering this year.  West Virginia University
  • WVPB’s News Department and its Us (and Them) Podcast received Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from RTDNA on Saturday, May 30. The news team won Overall Excellence while the podcast was recognized for Diversity in an episode about Black West Virginians with substance use challenges, advancing both to the national round.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

  • A Monongalia County student won $10,000 in the SMART529 Fund the Future sweepstakes to help cover future education costs. The winner plans to use the funds for college savings.  WV News

HEALTH NEWS

  • United Hospital Center debuted a new AI-powered patient room unit today as a $2 million investment to help nurses monitor patients with non-recording cameras — reducing interruptions and boosting care. Digital whiteboards now sync patient details with records to assist both staff and patients.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Twenty-three West Virginia athletes will join over 3,000 competitors at the Special Olympics national games on June 20 in Minnesota, following statewide meets on June 6 and 7. They were selected last October and are training hard to showcase their skills.  WDTV
  • WVU senior outfielder Ben Lumsden powered his team with a four-hit game that included a three-run home run and two scores in a 10-1 win over Binghamton at Kendrick Family Ballpark on Friday. The Mountaineers will face Kentucky at 5 p.m. today in the regional winner's bracket.  The Dominion Post
  • Twins Grace and Beth Robinson helped drive Morgantown High School’s first state softball tournament bid with 41 hits and 31 runs this season. The team will face 5-seed Hurricane on Tuesday morning at Little Creek Park (South Charleston) in the opening round.  The Dominion Post
  • Kentucky won a close game in the Morgantown Regional as the Wildcats edged Wake Forest 6+5 with a four-run sixth inning. They now await the winner from WVU and Binghamton later today while Wake Forest prepares for a win-or-go-home contest.  The Dominion Post
  • Big 12 coaches all voted for a 24-team playoff to give more teams a chance, and WVU Athletic Director Baker said more teams should get a spot. Final rules will wait until the Big Ten and SEC agree — a decision expected before December.  The Dominion Post
