COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City officials plan to revive the Fourth of July parade along High Street on Saturday and invite local groups to register—marchers, riders, and walkers—to join. Kids gather at Mountainlair Green at 3 p.m. and the parade begins at 4 p.m. before moving to the waterfront for music and food.  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • This summer, Governor’s Schools will celebrate America250 with events including a tourism road trip starting June 20 — on West Virginia’s 163rd birthday — and sessions at WVU Tech beginning July 6. Programs across campuses feature seminars, innovation expos and hands-on activities linking America’s heritage to modern learning.  The Dominion Post
  • OSA (Office of Student Accommodations) is honoring nine faculty and staff with 2026 Accessibility Advocate Awards for their efforts to improve access for students; certificates will be presented and awardees featured on its website.  West Virginia University
  • Superintendent Michele Blatt said state test scores confirmed academic progress as the school year ended; West Virginia retained sixth rank in math and improved to eighth in reading while chronic absenteeism dropped from 29% in 2022 to 23% in 2025 (showing stronger classroom engagement).  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four public comment hearings on the NextEra Energy Transmission MidAtlantic link project are set for June 4, 5, 10 and 11, with the final two in Morgantown and Kingwood. NextEra is refining plans for a West Virginia substation, promising up to 300 construction jobs and tax benefits (70% for education).  The Dominion Post
  • Morgantown hosted a public input session Tuesday for residents to share ideas on improving city infrastructure and economic development — city officials will review the feedback at a council meeting next month as they prepare for the WVU baseball tournament at Kendrick Family Ballpark this weekend.  WDTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • WVU Eye Institute teams have provided life-changing vision care in Ghana for almost a decade, treating cataracts and glaucoma to help patients resume work. The team returned in 2025 and is planning another mission in 2028 to expand its impact.  WDTV
  • WVU Cancer Institute is enrolling pancreatic cancer patients in a first-ever human trial using a small laparoscopically implanted device that delivers chemo directly to tumors plus minimizes side effects; two groups of 12 non-metastatic patients will begin fitting tests in June.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU hosts the baseball regional after a historic season and appears less challenged than team resumes suggest. Wake Forest, Kentucky and Binghamton recorded weaker results and the regional winner will later face the Los Angeles champion with UCLA & Virginia Tech.  The Dominion Post
