COMMUNITY NEWS

  • University High School celebrated its 100th graduating class Friday evening on the football field amid heavy rain and chilly winds. The ceremony featured speeches by class president Julia Watson and marked a milestone in the school’s centennial year (with family and friends gathered under rainy bleachers).  The Dominion Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MHS seniors graduated Friday night on Pony Lewis Field even as steady rain fell on the ceremony. About 440 graduates received diplomas in Ziploc bags (with officials checking safety on the slippery stage) as they celebrated their achievement.  The Dominion Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Patrick Morrisey ordered all state facility flags to fly at half-staff tomorrow for Memorial Day, urging the community to honor fallen heroes — a reminder of the sacrifices that secure our freedom.  MetroNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • Morgantown shared the Quad A boys’ state title at Laidley Field on Saturday, tying with Huntington at 107 points. Clay-Battelle’s Maggie Lemley earned her school’s first state track title in five years by winning the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best of 45.96 seconds.  The Dominion Post
  • After a 9-0 loss on Saturday at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, WVU returned to Morgantown without the power hitters needed to boost its offense, relying on strong pitching and defense. The Mountaineers now hope to secure one of 16 NCAA regional host spots when selections are announced later today.  The Dominion Post
