  • West Virginia State Parks has opened an expanded section of the McCollum Campground at Coopers Rock State Forest ahead of Memorial Day weekend—providing more space and amenities for campers. The new area will let visitors have a better camping experience this holiday.  WV News

CULTURE NEWS

  • USA Today named Morgantown's Ruby Summer Concert Series as one of the best free series in the country — the event ranked No. 3 on the Best Outdoor Concert Series list. The series runs every Friday night during the summer along the Monongahela River at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park Amphitheater and will feature local and legendary musicians.  WDTV
  • WVU Night will take place at PNC Park on June 20 to celebrate West Virginia Day, and ticket buyers will receive a limited edition co-branded Pirates and WVU jersey—this event will feature the Pirates facing the Texas Rangers in an evening of baseball.  West Virginia University

  • WVU held nine commencement ceremonies yesterday at the Coliseum — the alumni family grew by thousands.  West Virginia University

  • AAA projects that 45.1 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home for the Memorial Day weekend — a record high that is 1.4 million more than last year — and drivers in the region should allow extra time to cope with heavy traffic.   • Morgantown’s Elecia McCurrie—who won three state titles as a freshman and set a 100-meter dash best of 12.14 seconds at Region I meet—will compete in the girls’ 100-meter dash finals today at 1:25 p.m. and aims to break the state record.  The Dominion Post
  • Six WVU track team members have qualified to compete in the NCAA East First Rounds, which will be held from May 28 to May 31 at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium — in Jacksonville —. The roster includes returning star Sarah Tait—the winner of the Big 12 title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase—and athletes set for the 800, 5,000 and 10,000 meters and high jump.  West Virginia University
  • WVU baseball beat Cincinnati 10-3 in the Big 12 quarterfinals on Thursday at Globe Life Field — redshirt senior Griffin Kirn pitched his first complete game of the season. The team advanced to play No.4-seed Arizona on Friday at 5 p.m. ET — and they set a new season record at 41-13.  West Virginia University
