CULTURE NEWS

  • West Virginia Public Theatre will present its summer season with two productions at the Gladys G. Davis Theatre at WVU’s Canady Creative Arts Center. 'Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood' will run from June 3 to 11 and 'Proof' will run from June 24 to 28 with tickets starting at $15.  The Daily Athenaeum

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Office of the Provost and WVU Teaching and Learning Center are offering a new five-week virtual AI program for faculty, with two session cohorts starting June 15 and July 6; applications are due May 31 (limited seats available).  West Virginia University
  • Enrollment Management asks campus teams to provide feedback on Slate using its new Requirements Submission Form to refine student data processes. The project advances after an April announcement, with configuration ending by July 8, training throughout July, full go-live on Aug. 4, and admissions starting Sept. 1 + grad decisions on Oct. 1.  West Virginia University
  • Project Search at Ruby Memorial held its sixth graduation for five interns who spent a year with the hospital. The unique program—rare in Morgantown—prepares students with intellectual or developmental disabilities for competitive employment.  WDTV
  • Skyview Elementary in Monongalia County was named School-Business Partnership Award winner on Wednesday morning after competing with other schools in a statewide contest, earning $25,000 to improve its library (a key resource for mentoring programs).  WDTV
  • During WVU's May Commencement, 3,652 graduates celebrated as President Michael T. Benson shook each graduate's hand and urged them to overcome doubt and step boldly into their future.  West Virginia University
  • The McKinley family has established a $100K scholarship for WVU Statler College civil engineering undergraduates from Ohio County, honoring his legacy and easing financial burdens for future engineers. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • WVDNR announced that three state fishing records were broken earlier this month & verified catches include a 71-pound blue catfish caught by Michael Ramey in Jackson County, a 13.32-pound tiger trout taken by Donnie Workman at Summit Lake and a 6.46-pound redhorse sucker caught by Zachary Roper at Kanawha Falls.  WDTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The EPA has provided over $27 million to boost local efforts to replace lead pipes statewide and reduce lead exposure in drinking water. Local water systems will plan inventories, schedule removals, and deliver lasting benefits + protect public health.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Since May 1, Hill & Hollow has served local fare at the West Virginia Botanic Garden visitors center with favorites like Chilled Sesame Noodles and West Virginia Hot Dog; the menu will update in summer to add cool items including ice cream & a pork adobo twist.  Morgantown Magazine

SPORTS NEWS

  • Morgantown High beat Wheeling Park by a score of 5 to 0 at Dale Miller Field at Mylan Park on Thursday, May 21. The Mohigans are one win away from a state tournament berth & will face Spring Mills on Wednesday.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU enters the Big 12 tournament as the No. 2 seed and awaits the winner of TCU and Kansas State (Thursday at 7:30 p.m.). The Mountaineers are favorites with strong pitching and offense, yet teams like Kansas, UCF, Oklahoma State and Arizona State pose real challenges.  The Dominion Post
