CULTURE NEWS

  • WVPB announced today that its production team won four awards at the 46th Annual Telly Awards for excellence in documentary storytelling and archival footage use—showing how local stories engage audiences. Director Chris Barnhart said the awards highlight the value of sharing West Virginia’s rich history and culture.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU’s Division of Talent and Culture is holding one-hour virtual employee experience focus group sessions for faculty and staff — sessions available for both leadership and non-leadership groups. The meetings are scheduled for June 3 at 12:30 p.m., June 4 at 11 a.m., June 10 at 10 a.m. (faculty) and 1 p.m. (staff), and June 11 at 11 a.m. — anonymous feedback on work recognition, growth opportunities, and supervisor communication will be shared with university leaders.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Patrick Morrisey appointed Paul A. Mattox, Jr., Charles Wilfong, and Terry Hauser to the West Virginia University Board of Governors Tuesday. Mattox returns after previous service—while Wilfong and Hauser bring expertise in farming and education—to help guide WVU's future.  MetroNews
  • The AFGE Council of Prison Locals put 19 billboards in eight states to urge Congress to support law enforcement by rejecting Executive Order 14251 and addressing stalled training and pay increases. Two billboards in the Morgantown area on US Route 119 and State Route 705 highlight law enforcement concerns—Sen. Capito met with the BOP head on May 20.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

HEALTH NEWS

  • WVU researchers tested four ChatGPT models with emergency room cases and found the AI performed well with patients showing classic symptoms but struggled when symptoms were unusual—suggesting that more data like images and lab tests may boost accuracy. They plan to expand the study to see if better AI explanations can help doctors make treatment decisions.  WVU Today

  • Logan Sauve and Griffin Kirn were named to the all-Big 12 first team on Monday by league coaches. Sauve, a catcher, and Kirn, a transfer pitcher, join a streak of multiple first team selections—bolstering WVU baseball's strong season as the Mountaineers won the Big 12.  The Dominion Post
  • The Second Annual North-South All-Star Golf Tournament—sponsored by the West Virginia Athletic Directors Association—will be held at Little Creek Golf Course in South Charleston on June 12 with competition set to start at 9 a.m. and a practice round scheduled on June 11.  MetroNews
  • University High School softball team beat Morgantown 2-0 on Tuesday after Sophia Lehosit’s hit in the top of the seventh inning gave them the lead following a 4-3 game-winning hit by Lexi Elza in Game 1, & they will travel to South Charleston to compete in the state tournament.  The Dominion Post
