  • West Virginia National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe threw out the first pitch at Washington Nationals National Guard Day in Bridgeport, honoring Guard members from Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and West Virginia with a national anthem, game ball delivery and pregame display for about 250 servicemen while marking the nation's 250th birthday.  WDTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • West Virginia will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary from July 2 to July 5 at the Capitol Complex, where families can ride the America 250 wheel, the world’s largest portable Ferris wheel that lights up with 256 color LED display, and enjoy free shuttle services + a nightly light show.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVJC School of Nursing is expanding its partnership with WVU Medicine to add five hospital sites including Braxton County Memorial Hospital & Princeton Community Hospital. The Aspiring Nurse Program offers up to $25,000 in aid and mentorship for nursing training, and students must sign a three-year work commitment, organizers say.  WDTV
  • A $1 million donation to WVU’s John Chambers College & Economics will expand opportunities for students in the Data Driven WV program, boosting hands-on learning in Morgantown.  WV News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The EPA announced $9.4 million in funding for West Virginia communities to test for and address PFAS and other emerging contaminants in drinking water. The grant will expand safe water initiatives for local residents.  WV News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Steve Sabins said the Mountaineers, with a 37-13 overall record + 21 Big 12 wins, deserve to host an NCAA Regional if they win the quarterfinal on Thursday. The team aims to silence doubts and restore a packed Kendrick Family Ballpark as it continues its strong season.  The Dominion Post
  • Mountaineers pitcher Maxx Yehl earned Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and ten players were selected to the All-Conference team yesterday—an honor that underscores the team's strong season performance.  WDTV
  • WVU football secured a commitment Tuesday from T.J. Finley, a 3-star pass rusher from Florida, as the first pass rusher in its 2027 class. Finley (6'3", 240 lbs) chose the Mountaineers after receiving offers from multiple Power Four programs.  The Dominion Post
  • Preston High School won 8-4 against University after Bryson McNew hit two home runs, a double, and drove in four runs on Monday + sparked a five-run rally in the first inning. The Knights travel to Jefferson today at 6 p.m. for their regional contest.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU AD Wren Baker supports the NCAA Tournament’s expansion to 76 teams and backs a 24-team football playoff that may bring more on-campus postseason games + help smaller schools stay in the mix; he said he will learn more as details develop.  The Dominion Post
