EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Commencement ceremonies began on May 16th at the Coliseum with President Gordon Gee and other speakers inspiring thousands of spring graduates, and events today for the College of Creative Arts and Media will be livestreamed while ceremonies continue through May 18th. Honorary degrees are being awarded at several ceremonies — seating is first come, first served — and the University’s Clear Bag Policy is in effect. West Virginia University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North High Street from Prospect Street to Maiden Lane is closed to vehicle traffic until early August for construction—vehicles crossing Maiden Lane must use a detour up Fife Avenue, and the top floor exit at Mountainlair is closed with drivers directed to use College Avenue. Water line work starting May 19 may also close the Prospect Street and North High Street intersection on some days as it is changed to a two-way street for parking and loading needs. - ➤ Thursday afternoon at Mylan Park was hot as Morgantown girls won the Region I team title with 165 points by winning seven events, while University High School finished second with 137.5 points & UHS boys dominated with ten event victories led by MVP Tyler Umbright, with state meet qualifiers set to compete at Laidley Field on May 23 & 24. - ➤ Despite a 3-0 loss to Kansas at Kendrick Family Ballpark, West Virginia University clinched the Big 12 regular season title when Arizona State lost to Oklahoma State—improving the team's record to 40-11 and earning its 16th championship; the Mountaineers attempted to even the series Friday at 5 p.m.—inclement weather delayed the start.
