  • Nearly 300 United Way volunteers worked Wednesday to support local human services agencies by deep-cleaning Christian Help's four-story facility on Walnut Street (events coordinator Jesse Vermette said the task took just an afternoon rather than months).  The Dominion Post

  • Today, Mountain Stage with host Kathy Mattea airs archival sets featuring performances by The Derek Trucks Band, Bettye LaVette, and others. EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Virginia University hosts nine commencement ceremonies at Hope Coliseum from today through Sunday. Over 4,500 graduates and their families will attend at set times, and local police — with parking attendants — will help manage heavy traffic so visitors can get in and celebrate.  MetroNews
  • WVU Hospitals' MedEd program celebrated its second graduation class on Thursday evening in Morgantown (35 high school students from Monongalia County completed the program) as they prepare for next steps.  WV News
  • A national study shows West Virginia students improved math scores since 2019, earning the state the sixth best growth nationwide according to the Education Scorecard. Upshur County received recognition for nearly a full grade level gain, credited to strong community support & state-led initiatives.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting
  • The Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources commencement ceremony is set for 12:30 p.m. Sunday (May 17) at Hope Coliseum, where graduates from engineering, computer science, and environmental engineering programs will be celebrated.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representatives from the city, MUB, and BOPARC cut the ribbon for the new 172-foot Cobun Creek Bridge in White Park last Thursday — the structure will open 20 additional acres for trail construction after a seven-year dispute over a water line.  The Dominion Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • West Virginia officials announced on Thursday a $28.56M investment from the federal Rural Health Transformation Program to expand the rural healthcare workforce+improve access to care. The initiative aims to address worker shortages in communities including Morgantown.  WV News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Rich Rodriguez (who met with ESPN’s Pete Thamel) said WVU football now has more funding and time to improve its roster after a 4-8 season; he warned that rising expenses could widen the gap with wealthier programs if spending continues to climb.  The Dominion Post
  • Relief pitcher Ian Korn logged six scoreless innings to help WVU baseball win Game 1 with a 2-0 shutout over TCU, extending their 8-game win streak. Game 2 is set for today at 6:30 p.m.  The Dominion Post
