  • Shoppers will hunt for secondhand treasures at the Blue and Gold Mine Sale on Saturday, May 16 at Milan Puskar Stadium’s East Concourse, with early bird tickets at $5 from 7 to 9 a.m. Proceeds will support United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties to advance local community programs.  Morgantown Magazine

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Blue Mountain K-9 on Grafton Road, owned by former sheriff’s deputy Andrew Pintus III, was named West Virginia’s Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration this spring. The business, offering boarding, daycare and training services, recently expanded to Cheat Lake plus to accept the award.  The Dominion Post

  • Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced on Tuesday that a $25M Sandvik–Alpha metallurgical manufacturing project will create at least 120 jobs in West Virginia.  WV News

  • Students from West Virginia University's ETEC team claimed the competition's first national title (their win highlights growing skills in additive manufacturing) at EOS North America in Pflugerville, Texas on May 6-7.  WVU Today
  • Voters approved most public school funding measures on Tuesday’s primary ballot, allocating millions for staff salaries and meal programs — the funding will strengthen local schools statewide.  WV News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Monongahela National Forest announced it purchased a 427-acre tract in Randolph County from The Nature Conservancy. Forest officials say the new addition will boost public access and help protect trout streams and spruce ecosystems — preserving a local cattle-ranching tradition.  WDTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Judge John Copenhaver, the last active district judge appointed by President Gerald Ford, died today at age 100. Known for his quiet discipline, he left a legacy of six decades on the bench and a record-setting career in federal service.  MetroNews
  • Monongalia County approved a $4.1 million purchase of White Birch Tower II at 1311 Pineview Drive to house the health department by July 1, 2027; the sale of its current facility for $6 million generates about $1.9 million for upgrades and a new dental clinic + exam rooms.  The Dominion Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Coal miners now have easier access to lung screenings in Philippi after Vandalia Health Broaddus Hospital qualified for the NIOSH Coal Workers’ Health Surveillance Program—spirometry tests will catch early lung issues and cut down long travel for miners.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Campbell + Brown led University High to a 9-1 win over Musselman on Tuesday night in the Class AAAA North Region Softball Tournament. The Hawks now prepare to face Washington today at Lynch Field for a chance to travel to the state tournament, scheduled for June 2-4.  The Dominion Post
  • The Morgantown High boys lacrosse team delivered a dominating 19-7 win over Martinsburg at Pony Lewis Field last night to earn a trip to the State Final on Saturday in Charleston + Vessecchia led with five goals as the team improved its perfect season record to 16-0.  The Dominion Post
