  • Gwendolyn Davis, a Morgantown native and director of Blueprints' Connecting Children and Families Department in West Virginia, leads programs that support children and families with services like foster care and behavioral health across Washington and Greene Counties. With over 25 years of experience in human services (including work at crisis centers and with youth programs) she continues to break the cycle of poverty (providing in-home services and parenting support) to help families stay together.  The Dominion Post

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday at 12:18 p.m. deputies responded to a report of a body on the westbound shoulder of I-68 near Exit 1 University Avenue—identified as 56-year-old Aaron S. Monette from New York—and the investigation is ongoing with his remains now at the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  The Dominion Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mountain Line Transit Authority is testing propane as an alternative fuel to lower costs and cut emissions by avoiding expensive battery replacements. President Maria Smith said the converted Ford F-450 buses run cleaner and quieter than diesel and that a fifth bus will join the fleet in the fall—adding strong performance for the community.  MetroNews

HEALTH NEWS

  • U.S. District Judge Irene Berger granted a preliminary injunction on Tuesday to reverse job cuts at the Morgantown NIOSH facility that threatened miners' access to black lung screenings—forcing Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to certify compliance within 20 days. Over 100 workers were called back to work and a 9:30 a.m. hearing is scheduled today to review the agency’s reorganization plans.  MetroNews
  • Dr. Muhammad Alvi from the WVU Stroke Center discussed VNS therapy for strokes in yesterday's WVU Medicine Health Report—he explained that the treatment may help improve patient recovery.  WDTV

  • WVU senior outfielder Jace Rinehart — who hit .600 with five doubles, one home run, six RBI, and scored eight runs in four games — was named Student-Athlete of the Week after reaching his 50th RBI and 20th double against Kansas State, and his team will play a regular season finale against Kansas with a 6:30 p.m. start on Thursday.  West Virginia University
  • After a 14 to 9 loss to Kansas State on Sunday that cost the Mountaineers an outright Big 12 championship, head coach Steve Sabins said painful moments strengthen the team's resolve—WVU will play a final series of three games against Kansas at Kendrick Family Ballpark on Thursday and needs one win or a loss by Arizona State to claim their second Big 12 title.  The Dominion Post
