- ➤ The Blue and Gold Mine Sale will take place on Saturday, May 17 at the East Concourse of Milan Puskar Stadium to offer new-to-you treasures from small appliances to clothing and home décor. Admission will be $5 from 7-9 a.m.—free from 9 a.m. to noon with all items priced at $1 from 4-6 p.m., and proceeds will benefit the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties. - ➤ Keith Bell, 52, was arrested after he entered Elle’s Café and Hot Spot barefoot at 1 a.m. today and used a tire iron and face covering to force an employee to the ground, take $882 in cash and try to kidnap her before she freed herself—he now faces charges of robbery and attempted kidnapping with a $75,000 bond. - ➤ West Virginia University experts reached over 10 million readers through a partnership with the nonprofit publisher The Conversation—this milestone supports WVU's land-grant mission by making scholarly research clear and accessible to a wide audience. WVU Today
- ➤ The Office of Student Accommodations has updated its guidance on individual accommodations by moving detailed instructions to a new supplementary document that accompanies each authorization letter—streamlining the process for faculty. Course coordinators may opt in with a 1% or higher faculty designation in Banner to receive the electronic letters. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU faculty and staff who are eligible for benefits can add, drop or change their plans until May 15 during Open Enrollment for the 2026 Plan Year. All changes become effective July 1 and this period is the only chance to update coverage without a qualifying life event — review current options and contact WVU Shared Services with any questions. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ West Virginia’s black bear numbers have grown from about 500 to roughly 12,000–14,000 due to improved conservation and hunting season changes, but conflicts continue as bears seek food in unsecured dumpsters. The Division Natural Resources said using bear-resistant dumpsters—featuring metal lids and locked sides—can help keep both bears and people safe. West Virginia Public Broadcasting
