  • Melody Wolfe was honored Wednesday at a military mothers tribute at the White House for her steadfast support of her son, Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe (shot last November), who is recovering and will have another surgery in September.  MetroNews

CULTURE NEWS

  • West Virginia Public Theatre will launch its summer season in June with productions of Robin Hood and Proof at the Gladys G. Davis Theatre (on WVU's Evansdale Campus).  WV News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Morgantown youth can join summer arts camps in June and July, where programs let kids & teens learn visual art, theater, dance and music. Camps are hosted by local groups including the Monongalia Arts Center, Morgantown Theatre Company, NEVA Creative Arts and Umbrella Arts.  The Dominion Post
  • Dan Servian, a GIS analyst at WVU, is featured for the May Staff Council Classified Staff Showcase. With 15 years on the job, he manages campus maps and geospatial data to support planning and everyday navigation.  West Virginia University
  • University President Michael T. Benson will invite the community to a free Water Tower lighting ceremony during Commencement Weekend on Friday, May 15 at Blaney House, 948 Riverview Drive. The event will offer refreshments and musical entertainment starting at 7:30 p.m.  West Virginia University

  • At the fifth All In Foster Care Summit in Morgantown on Wednesday, Gov. Patrick Morrisey and local leaders urged agencies, churches, and foster groups to work together, with the governor reinforcing his commitment to the Bring Them Home Fund to return foster children home.  MetroNews

  • BFA Fitness Club on Don Knotts Boulevard offers functional fitness programs to help seniors maintain strength and independence. Founded last fall by Dr. Laura Davisson and Jim Boyce, the club tailors group classes and personal training for all levels and offers Morgantown magazine readers 10% off their first membership package.  Morgantown Magazine

SPORTS NEWS

  • Girls lacrosse advanced to state semifinals with an 11-10 overtime win over Fairmont Senior at Pony Lewis Field last night (coach Brian Reed praised the players' grit). They will meet Buckhannon-Upshur on the road on a to-be-announced date.  The Dominion Post
  • On Tuesday night in Charleston, No. 15 WVU baseball defeated Marshall 7-2 as catcher Gavin Kelly hit two home runs (his 10th of the season and third game in a row). The win boosted their record to 32-12 and marked a four-game winning streak.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU baseball faces its most important series of the season against Kansas + the games start later this week as the team builds momentum for upcoming challenges.  WDTV
  • WVU golf team qualified for the NCAA Tournament + earned the No. 9 seed in the Marana, Arizona Regional. The 81-team field was announced on Wednesday + regionals begin Monday, May 18.  MetroNews
