  • Michael T. Benson appeared on WBTW TV to reflect on his time at Coastal Carolina as he prepares to become West Virginia University’s new president and will move to Morgantown this summer—transitioning from Teal Nation to Mountaineer Nation.  West Virginia University
  • Timmy Nguyen, an academic lab manager in WVU’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology, received the May Staff Council Classified Spotlight+ his recognition honors the dedicated work of classified staff. When you see him on campus, give him a shoutout and consider nominating another deserving employee+ his spotlight underscores the value of every staff member.  West Virginia University
  • A student fashion show will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Canady Creative Arts Center at the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre to showcase the creativity, talent and innovation of fashion design and merchandising students — general admission costs $30 while VIP tickets are $40.  West Virginia University
  • Katlyn Hoy, a freshman studying animal and nutritional sciences, was named the commuter student of the year for the 2024 to 2025 school year from over 200 nominations and was awarded a one-year on-campus parking permit. Hoy said the permit will ease her daily hour-long drive by reducing parking stress and expense — a benefit for her upcoming academic year.  West Virginia University
  • The Office of Innovation and Commercialization at WVU has launched new online resources to streamline the patent and commercialization process. The secure intake form gives researchers a high-level market assessment—if favorable, it offers a draft invention disclosure form for the next steps.  West Virginia University

  • Morgantown High School baseball head coach Pat Sherald reached 100 wins on April 4 with a 7-2 win over Washington in his fifth full season—he credits his players and coaching staff for building a program that thrives on a challenging schedule and a balanced roster.  The Dominion Post
  • On Sunday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark, the No. 16 West Virginia University baseball team shut out Texas Tech 5 to 0 to improve to a 39 to 7 record while graduate student Jack Kartsonas pitched 7 scoreless innings and senior Kyle West hit his 50th home run — they will return on Tuesday for the second Backyard Brawl at Charles L. Cost Field in Pittsburgh with first pitch set for 6 p.m.  West Virginia University
