COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Rotary Club of Morgantown hosted its annual golf fundraiser on Monday at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, raising money for scholarships, community service projects and local needs.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Facilities Management at WVU will shut off steam for system upgrades with two planned outages: the Evansdale campus from May 11 to 15 and the Downtown area from May 18 to 29, affecting heating, hot water, and lab steam (Field Hall remains open and air conditioning is unchanged).  West Virginia University
  • The Office of Compliance and Prevention Education relocated to the Chestnut Ridge Building to boost accessibility and service for the university community; visitors use the intercom (located to the right of the main entrance) to gain access.  West Virginia University
  • The University is launching updated Title IX and Youth Protection training modules on Blackboard eCampus to keep the campus safe; new faculty, staff and student requirements take effect this academic year with clear deadlines for each module.  West Virginia University
  • Retired WVU faculty Syd Peng pledged $3M in his will to establish endowed chair and professor positions at Statler College, honoring his and his late wife Felicia’s legacy. WVU President Benson will recognize his decades of service at commencement ceremonies May 15-17.  WVU Today
  • Covenant Christian School held its groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, May 4, to mark the start of its new campus construction in Morgantown (official plans are pending further details). Local community leaders and parents attended the event.  WDTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • West Virginia officials are emphasizing Mental Health Awareness Month by expanding access to behavioral health services (including Help4WV, 988, and children’s crisis resources) to support residents as part of growing efforts to improve mental health care.  WV News

  • WVU baseball standout Gavin Kelly joins 3 Guys Before The Game, hosted by Brad Howe, Hoppy Kercheval, and Tony Caridi, to discuss his rising performance and WVU's climb in the national polls.   • After a tough 4-8 season, WVU football revamped its offensive line by hiring coach Rick Trickett (replacing Jack Bicknell) and adding new linemen including top recruit Kevin Brown.
