- ➤ WVU Police arrested 21-year-old Kaden James Vinar for a stabbing during a fight at a private residence at 565 Price Street near campus on May 2 — the student victim received treatment for a leg wound and Vinar was arraigned on May 3. WVU Today
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Hope Gas filed a proposal with the Public Service Commission this week to raise its base rates after its first base rate case since 2020—proposing monthly bill increases ranging from $21.10 to $33.74 and a two-year pilot discount for 2,500 low-income customers. If approved, the new rates will take effect Feb. 25, 2026 and the commission will review the request for 300 days. The Dominion Post

- ➤ The Logan County Commission voted unanimously on Friday in a special meeting to reject an $81 million proposal from West Virginia American Water to buy two public service districts, which would have paid off $45 million in debt. - ➤ During West Virginia Week, the federal government announced funding cuts to programs like Americorps while Sen. Shelley Moore Capito said she is working to bring back federal workers in Morgantown—Gov. Patrick Morrisey signed a law that requires a photo ID to vote and the city banned camping on public property. West Virginia Public Broadcasting
- ➤ State School Superintendent Michele Blatt told county superintendents Friday evening that Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s executive order—allowing religious exemptions for school vaccine rules—will remain in effect while counties are instructed to honor any granted exemption requests; Blatt rescinded an earlier memo and is working with the governor’s office to issue clear county guidance. - ➤ Morgantown's softball team beat Parkersburg South 3-1 in the OVAC Class 5A Championship at Wheeling Park High School after a two-hour delay—caused by dark skies that postponed the first pitch.
