- ➤ Members of the campus community can drop off unwanted items at any residence hall or donation station in Morgantown from Monday, May 5 through May 14 to support the 20th annual Blue and Gold Mine Sale. The sale will be held at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday, May 17 — early bird admission is $5 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., free from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and all items will be $1 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. West Virginia University

- ➤ Mark Brazaitis, professor and director of the creative writing program, was named recipient of the Faculty Award for Distinction in Graduate Research Mentoring—an honor celebrating his decades of dedicated mentorship—and received a $2,500 honorarium at the mid-April Faculty and Staff Awards Celebration. - ➤ Today, WVU held an AI symposium at the Erickson Alumni Center where student researchers and faculty presented on health—topics in scientific discovery and other emerging areas where AI is changing research. West Virginia University
- ➤ Sixteen undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in Native American Studies presented their research posters yesterday at Mountainlair Commons from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to discuss topics such as Indigenous language preservation, tribal violence against Native women, environmental concerns in Indian Country, and U.S. assimilation policies — including the legacy of Indian Residential Schools. - ➤ The Department of Chemistry recently hosted a STEM event for high school women from across West Virginia that featured hands-on medicinal chemistry experiments and a panel discussion with four faculty members (organized by second-year graduate student Olaosebikan Ibukunoluwa Abigail and supported by the WVU Giving Circle Engage Fund). - ➤ Adventure WV trip coordinator Jacob Rex has outlined several affordable nature destinations for students to explore this summer. He recommended Deckers Falls on Deckers Creek, Coopers Rock State Forest 13 miles from Morgantown, Blackwater Falls, Valley Falls State Park in Fairmont, the New River Gorge and Chestnut Ridge Park plus Morgantown Adventure Outfitters for local gear rentals. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Pre-health students can build clinical skills at the STEPS Center on May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—they will join four simulation scenarios and networking while lunch and snacks are provided. This exercise offers hands-on practice and follows positive responses from previous participants. West Virginia University
- ➤ Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center earned an A in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade spring report, the only hospital in West Virginia to receive that rating after scoring a B in fall 2024 and a C in spring 2024. David Goldberg said the hospital lowered infection rates and increased staff training—steps that show its ongoing focus on patient safety. The Dominion Post
