COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 600 households with seniors including 300 in the Mountaineer Food Bank area lost eligibility for the state’s Senior Food Box Program while the bank lost $1.7 million used for local farmer purchases. Mountaineer Food Bank also cut TFAP food deliveries by 15-30% following a $1 billion federal funding cut and its director said community support is urgently needed.  The Dominion Post

  • Guests gathered Saturday at West Virginia Heritage Crafts in Mount Clare to celebrate the first ever West Virginia Heritage Music Day & enjoy bluegrass and old-time music despite rainy conditions.  WV News

  • Protests took place this week against federal cuts and immigration efforts while lawmakers signed a new law to reduce dangerous drugs on local streets. A rising Black poet is building an Appalachian audience—researchers are also studying a local plant’s ability to neutralize poison.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU offensive lineman Wyatt Milum was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 89th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft. He played 43 of 47 games over four seasons — earning Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year honors last year.  The Dominion Post
  • The 14th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers beat UCF 4-1 at John Euliano Park on Friday night—using just one hit in the seventh to score four runs and secure a two-game lead in the Big 12 standings.  The Dominion Post
  • University High School boys lacrosse team extended their winning streak to 10 games by defeating Musselman 18-1 Friday evening at Mylan Pharmaceutical Stadium—13 players scored while the Hawks controlled the match from the start. They will travel to Preston on Tuesday and host Morgantown on May 2 at Baker’s Ridge as they continue their push toward the playoffs.  The Dominion Post
