  • The Division of Campus Engagement and Compliance will host a picnic on Mountainlair Green from 3-5 p.m. April 30—offering karaoke, games, and a picnic spread so locals can meet the team.  West Virginia University
  • The Department of Biology invites locals to join free wildflower walks at the Core Arboretum tomorrow with tours at noon, 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Those seeking group tours or volunteer opportunities should contact WVU Core Arboretum director Zach Fowler—information available upon request.  West Virginia University

CULTURE NEWS

  • The WVU Funk and Soul Ensemble will debut its public performance by delivering high energy funk and soulful sounds at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (April 30) at the Mountainlair, Gluck Theater. The free concert will feature classics from artists like Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson, inviting the Morgantown audience to enjoy a dynamic music experience.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU’s Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders will host free summer camps for reading, writing and spelling for elementary students in Morgantown from June to July. The camps will run from 1-3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic on the Evansdale campus (students receive free language evaluations in partnership with Scottish Rite).  The Daily Athenaeum

  • The University announced over 20 sustainability goals this week covering waste reduction, land and water protection — and lower emissions to boost a greener future.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the WVU Research Office introduced a new research security training program that certain individuals involved in federally funded research must complete in accordance with the National Security Presidential Memorandum (2021) and the CHIPS and Science Act (2022).  West Virginia University
  • Governor Patrick Morrisey signed Lauren's Law on Thursday at Hazel’s House of Hope in Morgantown—this law, named for Lauren Cole, raises mandatory penalties for fentanyl offenses. Supporters said the measure sends a strong message to drug dealers—while Cole’s father, who founded Lauren’s Wish, hopes stricter penalties will help curb drug abuse.  MetroNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wyatt Milum, a native of Kenova, played four seasons at West Virginia University and was selected with the 89th overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2025 NFL Draft. He appeared in 46 games for the Mountaineers between 2021 and 2024 + earned honors such as consensus All-American and Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.  WDTV
  • Ranked No. 17, the West Virginia University baseball team began its Big 12 series against UCF on April 25 with a 6 p.m. game, will play today at 6 p.m. at John Euliano Park, and will finish on Sunday at 1 p.m.—this is the first time the Mountaineers have traveled to UCF after last season’s sweep in Morgantown.  West Virginia University
