  • The Morgantown Farmers Market will open its summer season this weekend at two local sites, offering fresh produce and handmade goods from nearby farms.  WV News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Appalachian Power held its twice-yearly storm response drill today at Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane to test drone use for quickly finding downed lines and speeding repairs. Key personnel from across the service area participated to improve response tactics for future storms.  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU named four undergraduates Goldwater Scholars & Caden Ginter, Mason Powell, Cloe Ratliff and Camndon Reed, marking the first time the award honored four students. They received $7,500 annually for up to two years of research support & the ASPIRE Office invites interested students to apply.  WVU Today
  • Dr. Sarah Armstrong Tucker said a statewide campus safety symposium held Wednesday attracted over 150 representatives from colleges & universities to discuss campus mapping for improved emergency response. The Education Alliance will host a Career Academy on April 29 at the Charleston Coliseum, featuring keynote Alefiya Master and local employers.  MetroNews
  • Faculty and staff are encouraging students at WVU to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement before May 11 to provide feedback on programs, with survey participation offering a chance to win free parking, meal tickets and a $250 Visa gift card.  West Virginia University
  • WVU's state-mandated Washington Center for Civics, Culture and Statesmanship will offer 21 elective classes in Fall 2026 when it opens at the university after Duquesne University philosophy professor Patrick Miller was named director in Oct. 2025 (students and faculty have raised concerns about its mission and course overlap).  The Daily Athenaeum
  • WVU Police is teaching students the P.R.O.T.E.C.T. self-defense class today, where Lt. Brock Armstrong explains the benefits of UPD training. The class builds essential safety skills + self-defense techniques on campus.  West Virginia University

  • West Virginia begins a three-game series today at UC Baseball Stadium versus Cincinnati with right-handed pitcher Ian Korn making his Division I start + shifting from his relief role, while Coach Sabins stressed the team must work together to overcome the void left by injured starter Yehl.  MetroNews
  • WVU wide receiver Cyrus Traugh (a Parkersburg native) won the 2026 Tommy Nickolich Memorial Award before football began at the Gold Blue Spring Festival. Coach Rich Rodriguez, recalling his link to award namesake Tommy Nickolich, said Traugh is set to boost the team in his second season.  The Dominion Post
