COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mary Yoder leads the Black Diamond Cluster AKC dog show at the Ruby Community Center at Mylan Park from today through April 27—dogs from many states compete in events like obedience and showmanship while families enjoy free admission and parking.  Morgantown Magazine

CULTURE NEWS

  • The fourth annual Ruby Summer Concert Series will return to Hazel Ruby McQuain Park this June with free shows and a lineup of national touring artists and regional performers — drawing music fans from across Morgantown.  WV News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, about 500 people gathered in Morgantown for Focus Forward where WVU President Gordon Gee held his final fireside chat with Marshall President Brad Smith—Gee said he is leaving the presidency while honoring his 45-year connection with the university and noting that academic changes are setting WVU on a secure future path.  MetroNews
  • Brooke Tower is getting new waste pipes and pod-style bathrooms on all floors and will continue renovations until summer 2026 — the hall will reopen for the 2026-27 school year.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • The WVU Hub will host a webinar on student loan repayment at (3:30 p.m.) Tuesday (April 29) on Zoom. The webinar will cover federal exit counseling, missed payment consequences, monthly payment options, deferments, and forbearances.  West Virginia University
  • Earlier this month the WVU Board of Governors approved two new artificial intelligence programs in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics that will begin in fall 2025—one undergraduate program offering fast-tracked technical courses in applied artificial intelligence and data analytics and one master's program built to develop leadership skills for an AI-driven market—to help students gain the skills needed for emerging jobs.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • The Department of Communication Studies held a keynote address at 4 p.m. on April 23rd in 4002 Field Hall—part of COMM Week 2025—and a reception followed from 5 to 6 p.m. where student awards were presented and a poster display was shown.  West Virginia University

  • Morgantown boys lacrosse beat Linsly School 19—7 in their final regular season home game last night as goaltender Dylan Shinkovich made key saves and quick outlet passes to spark the offense. The Mohigans will travel to George Washington Friday night—gearing up for a state title run.  The Dominion Post
  • Legendary broadcaster Mike Patrick, known for his Mountaineer spirit despite never attending WVU, passed away on Easter Sunday in suburban Washington, D.C. He was 80 (celebrated for a 36-year career at ESPN and his deep loyalty to West Virginia sports).  West Virginia University
