CULTURE NEWS

  • MonRiverGames and WVU Game Design and Interactive Media will host the third annual Spring Indie Showcase on Saturday, April 26 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Media Innovation Center at Evansdale Crossing — the free event lets locals playtest digital and physical games made by students, indie developers, and professionals — and offers raffle prizes.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU open enrollment for Plan Year 2026 runs through May 15 and allows benefits-eligible faculty and staff to add, drop or change coverage. In-person help is available on April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Health Sciences Center Pylons while a virtual Benefits Fair is held on April 24 at 9 a.m.  West Virginia University
  • The Office of Graduate Education and Life announced the winners of the annual Three-Minute Thesis Competition held on April 10 during Graduate Student Appreciation Week and Research Week. Serhii Bahdasariants earned first place with his presentation on restoring movement after paralysis — while Trevor Smith and Thatcher Stevens placed second and third, and Siti Suwanda received the People’s Choice Award.  West Virginia University
  • WVU students studying geoscience and energy engineering now use the tNavigator reservoir simulation software after a $26.8 million in-kind gift from Rock Flow Dynamics was provided through the WVU Foundation. Most licenses are designated for the Statler College and a two-day training session held last fall equipped faculty and students with industry-leading skills (the platform supports advanced reservoir modeling).  West Virginia University
  • Hundreds of prospective students and families will visit the campus from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (April 26) for the WVU junior open house. Parking will be limited around the downtown area of campus.  West Virginia University
  • Three WVU Honors College students – Henry Coyle, Corinne Hazel, and Grady King – were awarded the Goldwater Scholarship, which provides $7,500 annually for up to two years to support research in math, engineering, and natural sciences. Their awards highlight the university’s focus on undergraduate research and set the stage for further academic growth.  WVU Today

  • Mon Power and the City of Morgantown announced plans to plant celestial dogwood near the intersection of Willowdale Road — Grove Street and will share more details on the event soon.  WV News
  • West Virginia University has announced a plan to improve its campuses by 2035 — the steps will include a reduction in waste, a 30% cut in campus printing, mandates for new computers and laptops, promoting alternative transportation, and sustainable dining practices — and Sustainability Director Traci Knabenshue said the measures will show students how to practice environmental care.  WDTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early voting is underway at the Historic Train Depot at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park in Morgantown’s municipal election where voters face ballot initiatives—one to allow the city manager to live outside city limits with council approval and one on whether to repeal the camping ban law. Polls are open today through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Morgantown Magazine

  • The West Virginia University golf team began their Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET against Baylor, Cincinnati and UCF and will play 18 holes today and on Thursday to finish 72 holes.  West Virginia University
