  • Morgantown Public Library System unveiled a new logo and redesigned website ahead of its 100th anniversary, offering a refreshed look that boosts accessibility (highlighting community and discovery).  WV News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sponsored by the School of Mathematical and Data Sciences, a film screening and discussion of Counted Out by Vicki Abeles will take place at 5:45 p.m. April 28 at the Mountainlair Gluck Theatre, where the film examines how math shapes systems like AI, elections, and public policy.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Morgantown High School was named a Model School and will be recognized at the Model Schools Conference in Florida. Officials say improved SAT scores, AP performance and proficiency rates show the school’s commitment to innovative teaching and professional growth.  WDTV
  • FSAP (Faculty and Staff Assistance Program) has moved to One Waterfront Place, Suite 2416 to offer confidential, free counseling and support services for employees and their dependents; interested parties can schedule appointments by calling 304-293-5590.  West Virginia University
  • Beverly Wendland (a former biology educator) is set to become WVU provost and vice president for academic affairs on July 1 as detailed in NCWV Life Magazine, highlighting her journey from the classroom to campus leadership.  West Virginia University
  • West Virginia University launched a new undergraduate program in construction management today at its Morgantown campus to help students gain skills in infrastructure development.  WV News
  • High school students in the MedEd program were honored for winning the Hope for the Future award — they received a $2,000 grant from the Education Alliance, and the final winner will be announced later this month as the two-year partnership with WVU Medicine offers a path to medical careers.  WDTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General JB McCuskey announced an $11 million settlement with Roblox to improve child safety measures, including verifying user age and limiting chat for younger players. Parts of the funds will support safety workshops and campaigns in West Virginia (released over several years).  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Four local seniors signed to play college sports in the fall. Waylon Colistra will join Shepard University’s men’s basketball team, Joel Moreland will run decathlon for UNC Charlotte, Audrey Skidmore will sprint at West Liberty University, and Preston High’s Easton Hayes chose Wheeling University.  The Dominion Post
  • John Neider, a transfer from UConn, showed his potential at WVU's spring game by catching key passes including a touchdown. He completed 15 practices, and coach Rich Rodriguez expects him to raise his game this fall.  The Dominion Post
