- ➤ The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies will host a celebration of its 47th anniversary on Thursday (April 24) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library (Milano Room). The event will highlight the work and achievements of faculty and students. West Virginia University
- ➤ Nine WVU student employees in the Division of Student Life were awarded the Herman and Kathryn Moses Scholarship for their leadership and hard work — the award honors longtime administrator Herman Moses and recognizes their impact on the University. West Virginia University
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Severe storms on Saturday knocked nearly half of Mon Power customers off in Monongalia County, causing heavy tree damage while MECCA 911 received over 250 calls. Crews are repairing 40 to 50 broken poles and damaged wires in the hardest-hit areas—power should be restored by 11 p.m. today—while high winds in the Eastern Panhandle damaged buildings and downed power poles. - ➤ West Virginia University unveiled more than 20 sustainability goals on Earth Week to reduce waste, lower emissions and protect land and water—improvements set to be achieved by 2035 include increased recycling, energy efficiency upgrades and plans for renewable energy integration across campuses.
