COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers cleaned Mon River and Deckers Creek Saturday afternoon as part of the third annual trash sweep, paddling and walking from the Seneca Center to the dam. Organizers hope to exceed the 6,000-pound haul from last year.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Virginia University named new vice president and chief financial officer Chris Kabourek effective June 1 after he was introduced at the Board of Governors meeting on Friday. (He brings nearly three decades of fiscal and administrative experience to manage finance, technology, and facilities operations on campus.)  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials with the West Virginia National Guard said a flyer for ramp-themed foods, wine tasting, live music, and train rides at the Morgantown Armory is false; no event is planned and residents should avoid the site (to steer clear of misinformation).  MetroNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU football signed 2027 linebacker Wesley Flamer on Saturday night after he compared offers from East Carolina, Temple, Buffalo & James Madison and scheduled an official visit from June 5-7. He becomes the seventh recruit after linebacker Rick Brown committed Friday afternoon.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU women’s basketball coach Mark Kellogg earned the Mickey Furfari Award as state’s top college coach after leading his team to 28 wins, a Big 12 Tournament Championship, and hosting home NCAA Tournament games in his third season. His efforts helped secure a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.  MetroNews
  • West Virginia beat Houston 7-1 in Game 2 as injuries sidelined key players including Gavin Kelly and Maxx Yehl. The series is tied and the final game will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. at their home field (broadcast on ESPN+).  The Dominion Post
  • WVU football held its Gold-Blue Spring Festival on Saturday afternoon in Morgantown to give fans a glimpse of its 2026 squad with a split-field scrimmage where the blue team won.   • Reese Allen became WVU’s 72nd Mountaineer mascot on Friday at the Mountainlair after a symbolic rifle passing ceremony in Morgantown.  WV News
