CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Michael T. Benson joins Visit Mountaineer Country's The Holler podcast to discuss his Welcome Home Tour and explain how WVU athletics supports tourism and benefits local communities — offering insights into the state's growing opportunities. West Virginia University
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 17, WVU’s Board of Governors approved a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management at Statler College, set to begin Fall 2026. The new program is designed to meet an urgent need in the construction industry. WDTV
- ➤ On April 17, President Michael T. Benson reported solid financial ratings and introduced incoming CFO Chris Kabourek, who starts on June 1. He said the ratings from S&P Global, Fitch and Moody’s will help secure lower bond rates and save the University millions — a boost for future capital projects. WVU Today
- ➤ The University announced that Cisco phone service including Jabber will be discontinued in July—if you are in a unit outside the Health Sciences area and still use these systems, submit an ITS ticket soon to keep your phone service. West Virginia University
- ➤ OLLI is offering a bus trip on May 22 to visit the Carlisle Federal Indian Boarding School National Monument, departing from Mountaineer Mall at 7 a.m. and returning around 10 p.m.; the trip costs ($140) and registration is due by May 4. West Virginia University
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The West Virginia Water Research Institute 3RQ Common Waters Initiative will host its Spring 2026 Common Waters Symposium from 4-6 p.m. April 22 at the NRCCE Building. Students will present seven posters on STEAM projects + connect with local environmental nonprofits. West Virginia University
- ➤ State officials from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources said the five-week spring gobbler season will open Monday, April 20 statewide and include youth hunting days this weekend. They noted low turkey brood counts from last spring may lead to fewer birds despite a mast crop boosting winter survival. MetroNews

- ➤ Mountain Line Transit Authority will provide free bus rides on Election Day, Tuesday, May 12 — Grey Lines excluded — for all local routes operating from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Check with local polling locations for more details. WDTV

- ➤ Children ages 4 to 12 are invited to join Get Moving! Day of Play on Saturday, April 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Men’s Soccer Practice Facility, where current and former Mountaineer student-athletes lead fitness activities + host a silent auction to benefit the program. West Virginia University

- ➤ The Mountaineers will end spring practice today with a Gold-Blue Spring Festival Game at Milan Puskar Stadium from noon to 1:30 p.m. Coach Rich Rodriguez will evaluate new players, while a Jake Owen concert from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. along with a gear sale & T-shirt giveaway offer fan fun. - ➤ West Virginia football added consensus 3-star linebacker Rick Brown as the third commitment for its 2027 class. The Harrisburg native has an official visit scheduled for June 5 to 7 and picked the Mountaineers over other Division I programs (including Pitt, Boston College, UConn, James Madison and Temple).
