CULTURE NEWS

  • Main Street Morgantown announced the start of its 2025 Arts Walk season—May Arts Walk will take place on Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in downtown Morgantown.  WV News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dale Lee of the West Virginia Education Association said lawmakers did not fix key education issues in session and he is worried that bills now passed could force teachers to report sensitive topics to parents. He also criticized a law giving lawmakers control over education policies—pointing out that voters and a court opposed such measures—and said teacher pay and health insurance need long-term fixes.  MetroNews
  • WVU Collegiate Recovery is marking Collegiate Recovery Week with a series of fun, inclusive events at its new Serenity Place at Maple House—events that continue through Friday, April 18. Today, the program hosts Collegiate Recovery Day when the campus community is encouraged to wear purple.  West Virginia University
  • Franny Perez-Ramirez, a graduate teaching assistant for the Center for Learning, Advising and Student Success, was named the inaugural First-Year Seminar Instructor of the Year Award recipient by the First-Year Seminar Advisory Council after over 200 nominations were collected—she will receive $1,250 for professional development and be honored at Blaney House on April 16.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Effective April 21, the Customer Care Contact Center for the Shared Services Center will change its hours to 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday; in-person support will be available at storefronts in One Waterfront Place, Mountainlair, the Health Sciences Center, and the National Research Center for Coal and Energy—customers can still submit cases or email at any time.  West Virginia University

SPORTS NEWS

  • The West Virginia University track and field team finished a weekend of competition on Sunday at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg—redshirt sophomore Olivia Cress set a personal best in the 200 meters while junior Sierra Heisey and freshman Sabria Jones also improved their times. The team will next compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mountaineer Twilight from April 16 to 19.  West Virginia University
  • On Sunday, West Virginia University baseball won its 10th straight game by defeating Houston 11-4 at Schroeder Park and improved its record to 30-4 overall and 10-3 in the Big 12. Junior Logan Sauve hit two home runs and had four RBI, and the team is set to face Marshall today at 6 p.m. on Jack Cook Field — a win that boosts their season momentum.  West Virginia University
  • During WVU Day of Giving, Breezeline donated funds to boost WVU esports’ expanding youth programs including summer skills camps that will be held both in person and online. The funds will also help the program, which began in October 2021—now featuring varsity teams and youth tournaments, offer students more opportunities to learn and play.  West Virginia University
  • The West Virginia University women's tennis team defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 4-2 on Saturday at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center—marking their first time with multiple Big 12 conference road wins. They will compete in the Big 12 Tennis Championship tomorrow with an opponent yet to be determined.  West Virginia University
