- ➤ The Department of Biology invites local residents to join a free guided wildflower walk at the Core Arboretum on April 13—walks begin at noon, 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and registration is required. West Virginia University
- ➤ Tony Michael, director of Family and Community Development at WVU Extension, was named the recipient of the 2025 Neil S. Bucklew Social Justice Award for his leadership in social justice programs that have fostered local policy improvements and inclusive community training — he will receive $2,500 for professional development. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Creative Collective, a collaborative art studio, opened today at 969 Canyon Road in Cheat Lake — its three owners, Eliza Cole, Corinne Martin, and Abby Pletcher, bring nail, hair and tattoo skills to the space. The studio will rotate local artwork every three months and host events, including a flash tattoo event on May 31 and an ACE Artist Collective on June 28, to give local artists an affordable outlet for their work. - ➤ The West Virginia University Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders is offering free summer camps in reading, spelling and writing for West Virginia residents entering first through fourth grade that last four weeks. The camps—available in two sessions—will be held at the WVU Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic at 375 Birch Street and will meet Monday through Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. West Virginia University

- ➤ House delegates approved two bills allocating $62 million for the Hope Scholarship amid heated debate—some representatives warned that future funding might triple while others stressed their duty to students—and the bills now head to the State Senate for further review. WDTV

- ➤ WVU hosted the Dance for Parkinson’s® event on March 14 at Erickson Alumni Center, where Parkinson’s patients and care partners joined dance sessions to improve mobility and balance — university leaders and researchers backed plans to expand dance therapy statewide. West Virginia University

- ➤ The Morgantown Mohawks broke barriers last season by winning the PIHL championship with a 6—2 victory against Burrell after a 19—1 regular season that led to their first title in program history.
