EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Faculty and staff will attend the School of Social Work Field Fair on Friday, Apr. 10 at Field Hall, Fourth Floor, where social work students will showcase community agency internships + explain field education requirements. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU will hold a bell-ringing ceremony on Friday (April 10) at noon in Oglebay Plaza to honor senior aerospace engineering student Brayden Smith, who died on Nov. 24, 2025. Attendees should gather near the USS West Virginia bell 15 minutes early. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU president Michael T. Benson visited the Bowling home in Parkersburg to congratulate senior Jay Bowling on his acceptance to WVU. Bowling will study general business in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics as he prepares for law school. West Virginia University
- ➤ Clayton Thyne is set to become the inaugural Linda and Don Brodie dean of the Eberly College at WVU with a start on July 1 (he helped shape academic programs at the University of Kentucky College) and he will succeed Dean Gregory Dunaway. West Virginia University
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s hosted its annual Pinwheels for Prevention event Monday in Morgantown to kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month. Hospital officials set up blue pinwheels+ symbols of a safe childhood as a month-long reminder for community support. The Dominion Post
- ➤ Researchers in the Division of Physical Therapy are asking parents with children aged 2 — 5 to join a study on how screen time affects play and physical activity; the secure online survey takes about 15 — 20 minutes to complete and is approved by WVU’s IRB. West Virginia University
- ➤ Morgantown High School student Pavan Subramani founded the Substance Safety Project, a nonprofit holding workshops & distributing drug disposal pouches to prevent opioid misuse in our community. The initiative aims to lower overdose rates through education and preventative measures over the next few years. The Dominion Post

- ➤ Former Morgantown state champion Sharron Young (a three-time high school winner and 2024 Bill Evans Award recipient) announced his entry into the NCAA transfer portal Friday. He played two seasons at Akron, earning all-MAC honors and helping the team to two NCAA tournament appearances. The Dominion Post
- ➤ Preston catcher Bryson McNew started the season hot by batting .583 with seven hits + eight RBI in 18 plate appearances. The Knights plan to pull their record to .500 with a win against Fairmont Senior tonight at home. The Dominion Post
- ➤ A panel of 10 local sports broadcasters and writers ranked high school baseball teams with Morgantown, Bridgeport, Doddridge and Gilmer tied for first based on games played through April 5. The poll reflects overall records, total points and first-place votes. MetroNews
- ➤ WVU baseball fell to No. 17 after allowing 32 hits and 20 runs in three games at home to UCF while regrouping from a flu outbreak that affected six players; the team will face in-state rival Marshall today at 6:30 p.m. at Kendrick Family Ballpark with sophomore righty David Hagen set to pitch.
