GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Union representatives at the state Capitol on Thursday afternoon criticized sweeping federal job cuts that affected nearly 200 positions at the local National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and other agencies across West Virginia—union leaders described the cuts as rapid and undirected. Senator Capito also expressed concern during a briefing and said she had spoken with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr and urged a more deliberate approach. MetroNews
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local children aged 4 to 12 will join current and former Mountaineer student-athletes to learn about health and fitness at the Get Moving! Day of Play event on April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Kendrick Family Ballpark at the Monongalia County Baseball Complex. Registration (starting at 9 a.m.) and a silent auction (to benefit the campaign) will be offered for the event. West Virginia University
- ➤ More than 20 organizations will offer free health screenings, educational resources and interactive activities during the fourth annual Community Health Expo and Walk from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 13 outside the Student Rec Center. West Virginia University
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ At Kendrick Family Ballpark, West Virginia University baseball defeated Pitt 11-1 in eight innings on Wednesday evening in front of a record 4,629 fans, improving the team to 24-4. Freshman Gavin Kelly had three RBI and Benjamin Hudson earned the win as the Mountaineers will host Utah today at 6:30 p.m. West Virginia University
- ➤ Morgantown — West Virginia added running back Jett Walker to its 2026 recruiting class after he visited campus on March 29—he rushed for 2,348 yards and 38 touchdowns last season and picked WVU over several other offers. Walker will enroll next January to join the backfield. The Dominion Post
- ➤ Ross Hodge was introduced yesterday as West Virginia’s 24th men's basketball coach and signed a five-year deal. He said he will build a defensive team like Houston and focus on quality decisions to rebuild the roster after Darian DeVries left on March 18—Hodge plans to work with three redshirt scholarship players from last season.
