- ➤ Friends of WVPB is accepting nominations for its FY 2027 Board of Directors with open seats in Beckley, Buckhannon, Charleston, Huntington, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Parkersburg, and Wheeling. Nominations are accepted until 11:59 p.m. on April 17, and eligible members may apply, except employees or volunteers with programming duties. West Virginia Public Broadcasting
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The WVPB Newsroom won 12 awards at the Virginias AP Broadcasters Awards on March 28 in Harrisonburg. The wins include three first-place and nine second-place honors for news and sports reporting (showing the team’s strong local impact). West Virginia Public Broadcasting
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Governor’s Internship Program will offer paid summer employment that connects students with government agencies for hands-on experience & mentorship. Applicants must have completed one academic year by May 2026, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and be enrolled in West Virginia institutions. West Virginia University
- ➤ Street & Jones were reelected as Student Body President and Vice President for the 2026-27 term, winning 723 of 1,332 votes. They plan to lower student costs by proposing a downtown grocery store and expand campus dialogue with an enhanced lecture series. The Daily Athenaeum

- ➤ WVDNR specialist Heath Miles was named the 2026 Wildlife Manager of the Year for his work improving turkey habitat and mentoring hunters in Mason County. WV News

- ➤ The Public Service Commission approved a decrease of $0.23 per month for average residential customers of Monongahela Power Co. & The Potomac Edison Co., effective today, lowering average monthly bills to about $137.43 while supporting the vegetation management control program. WDTV
- ➤ WV Attorney General J.B. McCuskey joined 41 other state officials today in urging Congress to pass the Combating Xylazine Act to combat xylazine misuse (a drug used as a veterinary tranquilizer), which would reclassify the drug and allow the DEA to track its production. WDTV

- ➤ As spring warms up, United Hospital Center’s physician Brittanie West advises hikers to use long pants and DEET and check for ticks (especially in hidden spots) to help prevent Lyme Disease. She added a Lyme vaccine is in trials and urged anyone with symptoms to seek urgent care. WDTV
