  • West Virginia Tourism announced a new Almost Heaven Swingo challenge that lets travelers visit over 60 swing photo sites statewide and check in on their mobile device to earn prizes. The limited-time event runs this spring and summer and offers rewards like a custom swing sticker and picture frame.  WDTV

  • An AI in marketing conference is planned for April 7 by the Department of Marketing at John Chambers College of Business and Economics; industry professionals, technology innovators and academic scholars will explore cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence in marketing.  West Virginia University

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Fairmont-based production company scored two films trending in Netflix's top five and will debut its horror film 'River' at the Toronto Film Festival this fall, with plans for a wider release next year plus significant local community spending.  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A workshop on big data and machine learning will be held at the Downtown Library, Room 104, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 8 and 9, hosted by the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and sponsored by the National Science Foundation.   • West Virginia college students can now apply for the paid Governor’s Internship Program, which offers positions with state agencies + college credit. Applications remain open for the 2026 opportunity.  WV News
  • Fifteen elementary students won prizes in the Smart 529 'When I Grow Up Essay Contest' organized by the Treasurer's Office after sharing their career dreams Monday in Charleston. One 5th grader also earned an extra $4500 for his account, prompting Treasurer Larry Pack to urge parents to start saving early.  MetroNews

HEALTH NEWS

  • WVU Medicine received a $1 million grant from the Highmark Foundation to support its Food for Mountaineers program + improve food access and public health. The funding will expand services for local residents.  WV News

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Mary's junior Brynnley Bulluck led her team to a state championship win and was named captain of the Class A All-State Girls Basketball team, while Clay-Battelle's Ali Hellyer earned honorable mention honors as announced by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.  The Dominion Post
