  • Morgantown 7th grader Nirav Nimbarte won the regional spelling bee on Saturday in Fairmont—qualifying for the National Spelling Bee as he competed against top spellers from North Central West Virginia.  WV News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Virginia lawmakers are moving forward with a statewide camping ban—Morgantown residents already face local camping restrictions and may see more changes as the April election approaches.  WV News
  • Hope Gas is pursuing 23 condemnation suits in court for rights of way to build its 30-mile Connector pipeline that will boost Morgantown's natural gas supply. Local landowners, including the Kernses, the Sixes and Marion Tennant, say they are upset over low offers — they worry about losing long-held property rights and access — and plan to contest the move.  The Dominion Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior JJ Quinerly scored 27 points as WVU Women’s Basketball defeated Columbia 78-59 on Saturday. The Mountaineers will face the winner of the Oregon State — North Carolina game in the second round on Monday in Chapel Hill.  WDTV
  • Tug Valley won its second straight state championship with a 65—45 win over Tucker County at the Charleston Coliseum after scoring 17 unanswered points early in the second half. The game marked the program’s fifth title and featured strong defense and quick scoring from key players.  MetroNews
  • Arizona beat WVU 6 to 4 in a game that lasted 16 innings at Kendrick Family Ballpark and started on Friday, ending early Saturday morning—Richie Morales drove in the winning run with a hit that scored two runs.  The Dominion Post
