EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU’s Adventure WV program gives first-year students a unique outdoor experience—participants quickly form friendships and gain confidence before classes begin. Registration is open and incoming students are encouraged to sign up now.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the House of Delegates approved a bill that will give the legislature authority over public schools by shifting rule-making power from a nine-member board to lawmakers—despite concerns that it may defy voters' will and challenge state Supreme Court precedent. The measure passed 84 to 12 and now moves to the Senate for review.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

HEALTH NEWS

  • WVU neuroscientists have discovered a way to control zinc release in the brain to help boost messages between brain cells — they say the new method may target this key mineral to improve brain function.  WV News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kaden Metheny, a former University High standout, will play today in the NCAA tournament when his Liberty Flames (seeded 12th) face Oregon at 10:10 p.m. in Seattle. He left Bowling Green after a high-ankle sprain and a coaching change and now helps his team win with his strong 3-point shooting.  The Dominion Post
  • Three WVU gymnasts were named to the 2025 All-Big 12 Conference Teams. Senior Anna Leigh made the Floor Exercise Team and freshmen Karleigh DiCello and Emerson Smith joined the All-Freshman Team—marking the first time in program history that more than one gymnast received all-conference honors.  West Virginia University
  • On Wednesday night at Kendrick Family Ballpark, the No. 24 WVU baseball team beat James Madison 3-1 after a triple steal gave them a 2-1 lead when Sam White stole home. The Mountaineers improved their record to 18-1 and now prepare for a three-game series with Arizona starting today at 6:30 p.m.  The Dominion Post
  • The West Virginia University volleyball team will host six summer camps at WVU Coliseum in July that train players in grades 1st to 12th — the sessions include youth, intermediate, middle school, team, elite and high school camps. Registration opens with set fees and age limits for each camp.  West Virginia University
  • Wren Baker announced today at the Milan Puskar Center that the search for a new men’s basketball coach began yesterday after Darian DeVries accepted a position with Indiana, and he said the next coach must be committed to the players, the university and the state. He added that WVU plans to be competitive in budget and recruiting as the process continues.  West Virginia University
