COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, March 16th, the WV Caring-sponsored Cinderella Project offered local teenagers inexpensive prom dresses and accessories at thrift stores in Burnsville, Fairmont, and Reedsville — using gently used formalwear donated all year.  WDTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Severe storms have damaged several buildings and left 7,000 North Central residents without power after a building collapsed during demolition in Weston and a roof was torn off in Fairmont—officials reported drain damage in Marion and no injuries while over 40,000 customers statewide now face outages.  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sunday, March 16, West Virginia University began assessing damage from severe thunderstorms that caused power outages on and off campus—teams from Facilities Management and University Police worked with Mon Power to restore services, and updates will be shared during spring break ending March 23.  WVU Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Virginia Men’s Basketball did not get chosen for the NCAA Tournament. The team finished 19-13 + 10-10 and missed the tournament for the second straight season.  WDTV
  • The WVU women’s basketball team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament as a #6 seed — they will play the winner of the Columbia vs Washington contest in Chapel Hill on Saturday. Local fans have planned a watch party on Sunday in Morgantown.  WDTV
  • On Sunday, the 24th-ranked WVU Mountaineers beat Oklahoma State 8-6 at O’Brate Stadium when Jace Rineart hit a two-run home run and Chase Meyer pitched 3 2/3 strong innings—earning his fourth win this season. The team now comes home to face James Madison in a two-game series that starts Tuesday evening—setting the stage for another big test.  The Dominion Post
