CULTURE NEWS

  • TEDxWVU will feature six local voices discussing 'The Art of Resilience' at 2 p.m. Mar. 29 in the Mountainlair Gluck Theater. Tickets are available online + by phone + at the Arts and Entertainment Box Office.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After a rapid round of questions at the Golden Horseshoe exam, President Michael T. Benson spoke with Mountaineer Middle School students about their future plans (their dreams for what they want to be when they grow up).  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Senate passed House Bill 4425 that repeals the one-time transfer rule for high school athletes - returning eligibility oversight to the WVSSAC. Gov. Morrisey must sign the bill for new rules to take effect and allow emergency rule adoption later this month.  MetroNews
  • Friday, Mar. 13 saw Governor Morrisey sign the budget and support his income tax cut while lawmakers pressed on with bills ahead of the deadline — Morgantown officials also reviewed the possibility of hosting opening round NCAA Women’s Tournament games and the girls high school basketball tournament held semi-final contests.  MetroNews
  • Gov. Morrisey thanked lawmakers on Friday for passing a bill that unlocks $199 million from a federal Rural Health Transformation Program to expand rural care, with officials set to start using the funds by Sept. 27. He had noted earlier that the delay was frustrating.  MetroNews

HEALTH NEWS

  • Morgantown High School junior Pavan Subramani started the Substance Safety Project nonprofit (which supplies drug disposal pouches and leads workshops) to help prevent drug abuse; the initiative has deactivated 13,500 pills and will distribute 5,000 more.  The Daily Athenaeum

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU football announced wide receiver Roscoe Hayes' commitment for the 2027 class as he attracted offers from several Power Four schools; the recruit (6-foot-6, 183 lbs from Atlanta) is the second commit (after defensive lineman DaJour Webb) of a group coach Rich Rodriguez said meets his call for bigger targets.  The Dominion Post
  • After WVU star receiver Cam Vaughn transferred to Miami, coach Rich Rodriguez rebuilt the receiver room with transfers, top JUCO players and freshmen (including veteran Jaden Bray). Early practices show promise as the team prepares to compete in the Big 12.  The Dominion Post
  • The 12th-ranked Mountaineers women’s basketball team will know on Saturday if they host NCAA tournament opening rounds after winning the Big 12 tournament; players use lemon wedges to reset their focus as taught by clinical sports therapist Dr. España Pérez, coach Mark Kellogg said.  The Dominion Post
  • The WVSSAC 2026 Boys Basketball State Tournament schedules quarterfinal, semifinal and championship games starting Tuesday, Mar. 17 with events extending into Saturday, Mar. 21. In the Class AAAA bracket, Morgantown will face Riverside on Thursday, Mar. 19 at 1:00 PM.  WDTV
