  • A downtown gift shop has been named the 4th Friendliest Small Business in the country — Hoot and Howl offers a handpicked selection of unique gifts from local and American-made artisans.  WDTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival runs March 5–8 at the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center and features over 100 short films, workshops, video art exhibits, and an award ceremony. Local and international filmmakers present diverse stories, with screenings starting March 5 evening.  Morgantown Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Morgantown summer camps for kids open registration as sessions start in early June and run through mid-August at sites like Champion Training Academy and the Monongalia Arts Center. Parents are urged to register soon & choose from themes in sports, arts, and science.  Morgantown Magazine
  • Local health professions students can apply to the WV AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars program via WVU and WV AHEC, with applications due by March 31. Up to 75 scholars will begin two years of interprofessional training on Sept. 1 — building skills for rural health leadership.  West Virginia University
  • President Michael T. Benson answered sample questions from the Golden Horseshoe exam, a tradition testing 8th graders’ state history knowledge (dating back to 1931). GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the House of Delegates passed H.B. 5453 to change the school aid formula for 2029-2030 with an 89-2 vote; the bill now moves to the Senate for review.  WDTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Patrick Morrisey signed a law to improve nutrition + physical activity that will take effect in May, aiming to prevent chronic disease across the state.  WV News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Star City plans to seek proposals for rental townhomes on a .66-acre property along Boyers Avenue — shifting from its earlier commercial development approach — with a purchase price of at least $575,000 and pending county commission approval.  The Dominion Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU baseball will face Columbia today at 2 p.m. in Morgantown in a three-game series as the team works to rebound from recent game cancellations and the departure of pitcher Chase Meyer — setting the stage for a fresh start this season.  The Dominion Post
  • After a close loss to Kansas State hurt their NCAA plans, the WVU men’s basketball team will meet UCF at 8 p.m. today at Hope Coliseum and honor key seniors in what may be their final home game.  The Dominion Post
