COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The West Virginia Women’s Pinball League kicked off its nine-week season Sunday at Levels Arcade, where local players compete and connect. Players must attend four sessions to qualify for finals+league officials invite newcomers to join the fun.  WDTV
  • Special Olympics West Virginia has announced its annual Polar Plunge event, set to take place later this month in Morgantown. Participants will brave icy water to raise funds and support local athletes.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The House is considering HB 5453 to use the current school aid formula until 2029 + then switch to block grants per student, with new funding levels for charter schools and a tiered approach for special education. This legislation aims to simplify school funding over the next three academic years.  MetroNews
  • Reese Allen, a Bridgeport native and senior dual mechanical engineering and data science major, was named the 72nd WVU Mountaineer mascot on Saturday at a men's event in Morgantown.  WV News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delegates brought a bill to the House floor today — the measure would gradually lower the current 5% severance tax on metallurgical coal to ease market challenges for producers.  MetroNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU hockey captured the CHMA championship with a 7-3 comeback win over Robert Morris at the new Hope Gas Ice Pavilion inside Mylan Park Friday night. A packed crowd energized the team and they earned a ticket to nationals in St. Louis next month.  The Dominion Post
  • West Virginia baseball lost the final game of the series 7-6 against Kennesaw State after a late home run gave their opponent the win — the Mountaineers clinched the series and will host Radford in a two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday at 2 p.m.  The Dominion Post
  • The WVU women’s basketball team won 118-60 over Cincinnati on Sunday — celebrated by 6,095 fans during Senior Day at Hope Coliseum. The win secured a No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament and they will play in the quarterfinals Friday at 6:30 p.m.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU will enhance Hope Coliseum with premium seating options this summer — renovations will be ready for the 2026-27 basketball season. The changes include loge seating, ledge seating and suites with in-game food and drink service.  MetroNews
