EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU Nursery School will become the WVU Early Learning Institute next academic year, shifting to a full-day model from 7 a.m. + 5:30 p.m. The updated facility now offers a 3-year-old preschool program and PreK classes with features like an on-site kitchen and improved outdoor learning space.  West Virginia University
  • The House Finance Committee advanced a revised Hope Scholarship bill Thursday that adjusts payments for eligible K-12 students by changing fund disbursements from twice to four times a year while keeping current award amounts, with the new schedule advancing to the full House ahead of next week’s universal eligibility rollout.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting
  • Davis College will welcome genetics professor Mike Arnold from the University of Georgia on Mar. 10 at 5 p.m. in the South Agricultural Sciences Building (Room 1021) as he presents Conservation Through Hunting, a lecture on how trophy hunting aids nature restoration; light refreshments will be provided.  West Virginia University
  • At the 2026 North American University Mine Rescue Competition held Feb. 16–21 in Sudbury, Ontario, the WVU mine rescue team finished second overall and won the Confined Space Challenge, trailing Laurentian University.  WV News

  • OLLI at WVU and the WVU Committee of Retired Faculty will host Jeremiah Samples, vice president for Village Caregiving and the West Virginia Lobbyist Group, on Zoom at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday (Mar. 4) to overview the 2026 legislative session and key bills affecting healthcare and social welfare.  West Virginia University

HEALTH NEWS

  • Owner Elizabeth Halliday-Reynolds now leads BlissBlissBliss, a full-service wellness center on Green Bag Road where she offers massage, aromatherapy, acupressure, energy work, and yoga. SPORTS NEWS

  • During WVU’s home opener against Ohio, Coach Sabins shifted players by placing outfielder Armani Guzman at first base & starting Matt Ineich at lead off, which helped the team score 19 runs. WVU will now face Kennesaw State today at 4 p.m. in a three-game road series.  The Dominion Post
