  • One Voice coffee shop in Oceana has been a community hub for flood recovery efforts after the Feb. 2025 floods in Wyoming County. Volunteers help residents sign up for repairs despite low disaster aid registration due to unfamiliar QR codes+ many homes remain in need of repair.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House Finance Committee leaders are gathering feedback on the Hope Scholarship reform bill, which is meant to adjust current funding procedures before it is presented. They said revised plans will be shared soon.  WV News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WVU’s Board of Governors met on Feb. 20 at the Erickson Alumni Center to review budget variances and approve renovations at Evansdale Crossing, which will update the third floor and add a testing center while drawing praise from Student Government.  The Daily Athenaeum

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU baseball lost its final game against Liberty today but won the series with a 12-0 blowout and a 2-0 win. The Mountaineers move to a 5-1 record and will host Ohio on Feb. 25 in their first home game.  The Dominion Post
  • The Robert C. Byrd and Elkins swimming teams won state championships on Saturday (Feb. 21) after competing in timed races that highlighted local talent.  WDTV
  • At Peak Health Aquatic Center (the local pool) on Friday, University High junior Monica Fisher won the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:08.89 finish while Morgantown High’s relay teams finished just off first. The state championship showcased competitive local talent.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU made a major defensive stand by limiting Oklahoma State to 40 points in a 72-40 win at Hope Coliseum Saturday. Coach Mark Kellogg said the win secured a double-bye into the Big 12 quarterfinals while underlining the team's focus on defense.  The Dominion Post
  • Morgantown Mohigans played a boys' basketball game against Washington High School on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, with standout action as Max Frey drove to the hoop during the second quarter (photos by Hailey Rogers).  The Dominion Post
