  • The Morgantown Area Partnership held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday for the new Y2K-themed clothing store That's So Cute in downtown Morgantown + the event marked the store's debut on the local retail scene.  WV News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU is launching a campuswide education to clarify lactation break policies so employees and students can take timely pumping breaks in private rooms (18 are provided) as required by federal law and University policy.  West Virginia University
  • The Department of Communication Studies invites adults using TikTok daily to join a 30-day study on social media use, which sends a daily survey via email at 8 p.m. with a five-minute pre-survey required for eligibility and chances to earn up to $50 in Amazon gift cards+.  West Virginia University
  • West Virginia University Dean of Libraries and Press Karen Diaz is retiring after nearly 40 years in higher education and eight years as dean, leaving a strong legacy of change & leadership; a search committee will meet Feb. 18 to review final candidates for her successor.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is hosting Engineers Week from Feb. 23-27 at the Engineering Sciences Building (including an oilfield demonstration on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 9-11 a.m. and a bomb defusing robot exhibit on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 2-4 p.m.) with additional student events throughout the week.  West Virginia University
  • Nutter Fort Primary students received an early Flag Day lesson on Thursday morning as the Clarksburg and Nutter Fort Lions Clubs taught proper flag etiquette; each student got an American flag to take home.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The WVU Rifle team, led by coach Jon Hammond, came from behind to beat Kentucky on Feb. 14 and is set to begin NCAA qualifiers today at 9:00 a.m. at the WVU Rifle Range + they are on a 12-game winning streak as they aim for another title.  The Dominion Post
  • Girls' hoops star Kayli Kellogg from Morgantown became WV's first high school athlete to secure an NIL partnership with Vision Homes Inc. (her first NIL deal) that will help her learn about real estate and promote local youth athletics.  The Dominion Post
  • The MetroNews high school boys basketball poll shows Washington atop Class AAAA based on games through Feb. 18 (Week 6 results), with rankings set to be updated each Friday during the regular season. The poll is voted on by 10 local radio broadcasters and sports writers.  MetroNews
  • At the WVSSAC State Swim Meet in Morgantown, Morgantown High's Ellie Perella and the University’s Monica Fisher competed in the girls 200-yard freestyle finals on Thursday evening, with photos capturing key moments from day one.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU will face Oklahoma State’s high-scoring offense today at Hope Coliseum at 2 p.m.—Big 12 tournament seedings are at stake. Coach Mark Kellogg said the Mountaineers must keep pace with the Cowgirls to secure a favorable position.  The Dominion Post
