  • The Office of Compliance and Prevention Education is hosting Coffee with a Cop at Starbucks in the WVU Bookstore on Thursday, Feb. 12 (8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.) to give faculty and staff a chance to enjoy free coffee and connect with officers.  West Virginia University

  • Local band The Travellers performed on Tunesday & energized Morgantown fans with a live set that added to the community's vibrant music scene.  WDTV
  • 22-year-old Livy Spino from Shinnston, who works at Texas Roadhouse in Morgantown, impressed American Idol judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood & Lionel Richie last Monday night with her rendition of Love Wins, earning her a golden ticket to Hollywood.  WDTV
  • WVU School of Art and Design is hosting its 13th Annual Juried Student Exhibition, letting art students experience a professional gallery setting & offering local art lovers a chance to see emerging talent on campus.  WV News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a Feb 2 meeting, WVU’s Faculty Senate discussed state bills affecting higher education, university investments, dean searches, and plans to bring back the Hardesty Festival of Ideas lecture series (set for Feb 16-18). The committee will meet again on March 9.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • Senate Education Committee discussed and advanced two school funding bills today that would add teachers + service workers statewide and improve support for special education. Lawmakers will revisit a related bill on Thursday to further enhance financial relief for schools.  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Patrick Morrisey proposed a 10% state income tax cut by combining a 5% cut in his budget with a call for lawmakers to add another 5%, a move that budget expert Kelly Allen called risky as it would shift $170 million from vital Medicaid and SNAP funding. The proposal could impact state services and revenue going forward.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Virginia's No. 19 basketball team (20-5) will face UCF today at Hope Coliseum at 7 p.m. Coach Mark Kellogg said the team is focusing on reducing turnovers and sharpening both offense and defense to build on six wins in the last seven games.  MetroNews
  • WVU coach Steve Sabins said star pitcher Chase Meyer is three to four weeks behind schedule after breaking his finger at Thanksgiving; he will begin the season in relief until he recovers, as new pitchers bolster the staff ahead of the opener against Georgia Southern on Feb. 13.  The Dominion Post
  • Brodie Kresser is switching to first base for WVU baseball this season after shoulder surgery made playing shortstop difficult. Coach Steve Sabins said the change will give Kresser more chances to use his bat alongside an athletic infield (including Gavin Kelly, Matt Ineich, and Tyrus Hall).  The Dominion Post
  • Tony Caridi, longtime play-by-play announcer for the Mountaineers and host of Sportsline, has been named the 2026 recipient of NSMA’s Voice of College Sports Award. The award will be presented at NSMA’s 66th Annual Awards Banquet in Greensboro on June 29.  MetroNews
