BUSINESS NEWS

  • Raising Cane's opened its first West Virginia location at University Town Centre in Morgantown early Tuesday morning with a packed ribbon cutting event, marking a new chapter for the local chain. The restaurant aims to serve locals with its signature chicken fare.  WV News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The West Virginia Department of Tourism announced on Monday that eight local historic sites — including a former Black hospital home — were added to the National Register of Historic Places.  WV News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new Urban Institute study reveals that West Virginia’s inflation-adjusted median household income fell by 0.4% since 1970, leaving the state ranked 49th while other states enjoyed gains + reduced education spending is seen as a factor behind the slower growth.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The WVU Child Learning Center near Evansdale offers affordable child care, early education, and free webinars on parenting topics such as healthy eating for all Morgantown families & provides reduced-cost options for WVU employees, students and military personnel.  West Virginia University
  • U92 the Moose, WVU’s student-run radio station, will host its fourth-annual Pledge Your Love to the Moose drive from Feb. 9 to 14. The fundraiser will air extended programming with live bands, karaoke, and news shows, and donations will support studio upgrades and student travel.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • University students are invited to submit creative work (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, artwork, photography) to Calliope for its spring issue; submissions are due by March 1 and selected pieces will be read at 7:30 p.m. April 28 in Colson Hall, Room 130.  West Virginia University
  • The Senate Education Committee advanced a bill that removes the rule requiring superintendents to live in the same or a neighboring county so local boards can set their own guidelines. The bill now heads to the full Senate for further review.  MetroNews
  • WVU alum Don Brodie & his wife Linda donated $5 million to establish the Linda and Don Brodie Deanship at Eberly College of Arts and Sciences to support leadership in the college. The donation is set to bolster academic opportunities and guide future programs.  WV News

  • During Sunday evening's City Council meeting, Mayor Danielle Trumble issued a Black History Month proclamation with local groups in attendance. Council members praised fundraisers that allowed the warming shelter to add beds + increased capacity at the regular shelter after a winter storm.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • John Marshall advanced to the OVAC 5A championship after coming back from a 16-point deficit for a 45-35 win over University in the girls basketball semifinal at the John Marshall Field House Monday. Coach Brock Melko said his team turned the game around.  The Dominion Post
  • After a 70-60 upset over No. 14 Baylor that boosted their AP ranking to No. 20, WVU women's basketball will travel to Colorado tonight at 9 p.m. to build on their strong road performance during a key three-game stretch.  The Dominion Post
