EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Staff Council Scholarship program, in partnership with University administration (since 1986), has helped hundreds of employees pursue education and is now accepting applications for eligible staff. West Virginia University
- ➤ Today, during National School Counseling Week, WVU students present lessons and decorated bulletin boards in Allen Hall to raise awareness about school counselors and the challenges they face. The program features media visits by counseling interns serving more than nine counties + nearly 9,500 students. West Virginia University
- ➤ The State Department of Education is inviting local groups to join the Summer Food Service Program to provide free meals and activities for kids this summer; official feeding sites at schools and libraries will be announced in June. WDTV
- ➤ Monongalia County Schools has opened registration for Summer Avalanche (a summer enrichment program for high school students) with classes in coding, screenwriting and science available. Registration began Monday and remains open through Feb. 28. The Dominion Post
- ➤ West Virginia University inducted four alumni at the Erickson Alumni Center on Friday evening. The ceremony celebrated their notable careers in national sports. WV News

- ➤ West Virginia Department of Human Services is accepting LIEAP applications from Feb. 2-20 to help low-income households pay for heating costs. Residents may apply online or in person for this energy assistance. WV News
- ➤ State officials announced an extension for SNAP food loss claims through Feb. 14 so families who lost food during the winter storm due to lengthy power outages & office closures will have extra time to file affidavits at local DoHS offices. WDTV
- ➤ City crews are working to fix a 4-inch water main leak on University Avenue that is affecting traffic from Overhill Street to 1st Street and reducing lanes between 1st and Houston Drive; WVU is salting roads to improve safety now. The Daily Athenaeum

- ➤ WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute hosted a program Sunday evening to launch its new brain health collaboratory in Morgantown+ partnering with Cognito Therapeutics to advance non-drug neurotechnology for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases; the event featured a keynote from Dr. Gerald Chan and a panel discussion.
