BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nothing Bundt Cakes held its soft opening last Sunday at University Town Centre and now offers a range of flavors in Morgantown. The bakery is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  WDTV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Mettiki Coal issued WARN Act notices to 200 Mountain View Mine workers following a customer plant outage in 2025 and expects more shutdowns next year — affected workers will finish contracts in March while the company plans reclamation work to decide the mine’s future.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four candidates for WVU Libraries and Press dean role will hold public presentations at the Downtown Library (Milano Reading Room) on Feb. 2, Feb. 3, Feb. 5, and Feb. 10; sessions will offer in-person and virtual options with details sent by ENews and email.  West Virginia University

FINANCE NEWS

  • The VITA program offers free tax preparation services to families earning up to $69,000, IRS-funded and supported by West Virginia DoHS. Residents statewide can locate a site to file taxes accurately and avoid costly fees.  WDTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Morgantown Municipal Airport director Jon Vrabel said the airport will add seasonal flights and start a runway extension to 6,200 ft to allow larger jets + improve FAA funding eligibility. Some work has been delayed by weather but progress is expected this summer.  The Dominion Post
  • Morgantown residents 18+ can apply for the free Citizens Academy, which now offers longer 2.5-hour sessions, civic leadership recognition, and a digital microcredential through WVU — including extra slots for WVU students. Applications open Feb. 2 with a March 19 deadline, and candidates will be notified by early April.  West Virginia University

SPORTS NEWS

  • Armand Hill, a 4-star running back who had been WVU’s only committed pledge for the class of 2027 from March 2025, reportedly decommitted Thursday night amid coaching changes and new recruits in the running back room — officials say the program is revising its recruitment strategy.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU men's basketball will host Baylor at 4 p.m. Saturday in Hope Coliseum. The Mountaineers, who are known for slow starts but a strong defense, will try to build on their 59-54 win as they face Baylor's top scorers like Cameron Moore and Tounde Yessoufou.  The Dominion Post
  • West Virginia women’s basketball will face No. 14 Baylor on Sunday at 1 p.m. on campus. Baylor carries an 18+3 record and a strong defense, and Coach Mark Kellogg expects his team to take an early lead to boost their Big 12 standing.  The Dominion Post
  • Frank Vitale and his son Max worked as referees at a local wrestling tournament in Morgantown. The pair, both certified at 17 (Frank in New Jersey and Max inspired by his father), helped create a fair and encouraging field for young wrestlers.  The Dominion Post
