- ➤ A fire forced a section of Whitemoore Park to close after officials discovered a burned bridge linking the park trail to Valley Crossing on Tuesday and said repairs will start only after engineers inspect the damage. The Dominion Post

- ➤ Larkin Poe appears on Mountain Stage today for an encore broadcast that features their Song of the Week 'Mockingbird' from the new album Bloom, recorded with host Kathy Mattea on the campus of WVU. - ➤ Rose Center & Council for the Arts launches its 50th-anniversary celebration with a free show featuring acclaimed singer-songwriter Shayla McDaniel as part of the 2026 Live at Rose Center series. WV News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University inventors can apply for the Office of Innovation and Commercialization’s Proof-to-Patent program, which offers up to $1,000 to validate technical claims and boost a technology’s commercial potential. Approved funds must be used by June 1 and funding is subject to availability. West Virginia University
- ➤ Beverly Wendland, a seasoned higher education administrator, was named provost and vice president for academic affairs at WVU on Jan. 8 and plans to meet with students, faculty, staff and community members (she will begin full-time duties on July 1). The Daily Athenaeum
- ➤ Ten students were relocated from dorms at Stalnaker Hall on Wednesday after a water issue emerged on the first floor, with eight staying within the hall and two moved to Dadisman Hall (repairs are underway). The Daily Athenaeum
- ➤ WVU Career Services partnered with Forage to offer a free, virtual learning platform that lets students explore immersive job simulations in their classrooms and add their experiences to their resumes & LinkedIn profiles. - ➤ Faculty and staff can participate in Mental Health 101 training sessions covering mental health statistics, warning signs and intervention techniques on Zoom. - ➤ WVU released its first annual Hazing Transparency and Security Report on Dec. 23, 2025, showing no hazing incidents on the Morgantown campus from July 1 to Dec. 23, 2025 & outlining the required hazing policies under the Stop Campus Hazing Act. The Daily Athenaeum
- ➤ In Monday’s meeting, the Faculty Senate updated the Strategic Compass with a revised mission statement that emphasizes WVU’s land-grant pride and announced future partnerships and campus-wide seed funding. - ➤ NIOSH employees in Morgantown have been reinstated after a months-long dispute over federal workforce cuts. Union representatives confirmed that all affected workers returned to their positions, preserving local jobs and essential safety research. West Virginia Public Broadcasting
