COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hazel’s House of Hope is planning facility upgrades to expand services for residents; the nonprofit said work will begin soon.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Faculty and staff are invited to volunteer for the West Virginia Regional High School and Middle School Science Bowl at the Mountainlair on Feb. 6-7 to help support a state-wide STEM event. Volunteers need no prior experience as training will be provided.  West Virginia University
  • Beverly Wendland is engaging with faculty, staff, and students across the WVU System as she prepares to assume the role of provost and vice president for academic affairs on July 1 (her official start date).  West Virginia University
  • WDTV and the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce partnered at South Harrison High School for the Women Inspiring Success series. Dr. Samantha Jetta shared her journey in dentistry and encouraged students to overcome obstacles (students interested in shadowing can contact Bridgeport Family Dentistry).  WDTV
  • Faculty and staff can recommend students with strong community spirit as candidates for the next Mountaineer mascot role + applications are due by Jan. 16 after students receive an email invitation.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Wednesday that 2.1 million dollars in state grants have been awarded for developing business-ready sites across 23 counties, aiming to boost local business opportunities.  WV News
  • In preparation for spring semester, the WVU Parking Management Office reminds drivers to park with license plates visible from drivable aisles. Vehicles that display only a rear plate must park front-first (vanity plates for $20 are available at Mountaineer Station from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.) to avoid citations.  West Virginia University

HEALTH NEWS

  • Valley Health System said new changes will improve mental health care and access in Morgantown following the Monday Mental Health Movement introduced yesterday, with updated services set to roll out soon.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU signed Mississippi State transfer tight end Cam Ball Monday night — a veteran at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds expected to serve as a strong blocker in the run game. The move adds size to the Mountaineers amid the ongoing transfer portal cycle in Morgantown.  The Dominion Post
  • Junior Collin Ridgeway has secured the starting point guard spot for Morgantown High’s undefeated Mohigans in the 2025-2026 season. In eight games, he has averaged 8.3 points, 4.5 assists, and leads the team + he aims to win a state championship.  The Dominion Post
